Skye Perez

With 18 years behind the drums and over 12 years of teaching experience, Skye Perez is a Vancouver-based drummer and educator originally from Puebla, Mexico. He holds a degree in Jazz Performance from Capilano University and has performed at festivals with both his own projects and while supporting other artists. Skyes is also a Canada Council for the Arts grant recipient, recognizing his work as a musician and artist.

Mark’s approach to teaching is a balance of fun, focused learning, and serious musical development. Every lesson is tailored to the individual student, their interests, goals, and experience. Whether a student is just starting out, wants to learn their favourite songs, prepare for an exam, or take their playing to the next level, lessons are built around what motivates them.

With a background rooted in jazz and experience playing rock from a young age, Mark teaches everything from foundational skills to advanced concepts, including technique, grooves, fills, drum solos, reading, and playing along with music. Students can learn whatever music inspires them, songs will be prepared specifically for his students so they can learn the music they actually enjoy at the pace that best suits them. Skye also works with students on school-related music projects, exam preparation, and developing the skills needed to become more independent musicians.

Skye believes that learning drums goes beyond simply learning an instrument. The process of becoming a better drummer can help develop dedication, discipline, creativity, confidence, focus, and problem-solving skills that carry over into other areas of life.
